Roatan

Roatan is the largest and most developed of the three Caribbean islands located only 30 nautical miles of the coast of Honduras. The reef system found around the islands is part of the second largest in the world and offers some of the best Scuba diving in Central America. Most hotels and other accommodation on Roatan are close to the beach and a wide array of Scuba diving shops will provide you with all the Scuba diving gear you need.

The mountainous landscape of Roatan is very different from the other islands and provides an atmosphere all of its own. Experiencing the mountains, pastures, lush forest and stretches of white sandy beaches is easy and allows for diverse activities. Roatan provides accommodations for every taste and budget including hotels and resorts, rental homes, villas and apartments.

Life on Roatan is "laid back" and great for families and active people. Most of the locals are of Afro-Antillean descent with fishing being their main source of income. Public transportation on Roatan is efficient and makes it possible to visit interesting villages, historical sights and impressive resorts.

A ferry twice daily connects Roatan to the mainland of Honduras and a cruise ship dock capable of docking two ships daily has recently been finished. You will also find public and private hospitals on Roatan and a recompression chamber for divers.
